Zoisite: The Crystal for 2020 and Beyond

2020 has been a year for massive growth, whether you were ready for it or not. We have experienced disease, fear, uncertainty, isolation, frustration, anger, selfishness, irrationality, etc., etc. We have also witnessed sacrifice, selflessness, unconditional love, courage, gratitude, and compassion. Both ends of the spectrum have been very present! We will be dealing with the consequences and effects, both the good and the bad, of this time for generations to come.

So, what does the crystal Zoisite have to do with the challenges of 2020? I have been drawn to the green/red Ruby Zoisite variety of this mineral for months now and really could not understand why. It is beautiful, but why was I so attracted to it? I was astonished to learn the geological and the metaphysical qualities of the crystal and here is why!

Zoisite Geological Properties

Zoisite is in the Epidote mineral group. The Zoisite family includes Anyolite (a combination of Ruby and green Zoisite, aka Ruby Zoisite), Thulite, and Tanzanite. It is found on every continent in several different countries.

Ruby Zoisite is dark green due to chromium with inclusions of the mineral black Hornblende and red Ruby. Thulite is pink in color due to manganese and ranges from exceptionally light pink to almost magenta. Tanzanite, the most recently discovered variety, is the rarest with a blue to purple color due to vanadium, and will shift between an indigo and violet color depending on what light (natural vs artificial) it is in. They all have a Mohs hardness level of 6-7.

Zoisite Metaphysical Properties

Each crystal in the Zoisite family (Thulite, Zoisite, and Tanzanite) has specific properties unique to itself that are worth looking up, but I have chosen to only speak here to the shared properties of the Zoisite family.

One of the most important properties of Zoisite that grabbed my attention is the unique way it assists with overcoming illness. Disease of any kind, be it viral or bacterial or physical (like cancer), is thought to be of a low vibration so it cannot exist in a place of high vibration. Zoisite encourages a high vibrational state by strengthening the etheric body, repairing auric tears, and cleansing the auric body of negative attachments (Psyche Trading, "Uses, Meanings and Healing Properties of Zoisite", https://www.healingwithcrystals.net.au/zoisite.html, last accessed Sept 2020). When your aura is healed and whole it is a lot less likely that you will allow negativity to change your vibration because you know you are stronger than any problems out there.

According to Dr. Athena Perrakis, Zoisite transmutes negative energy to positive, and who couldn’t use more of that at any time in their life? Furthermore, Zoisite helps alleviate grief, anger, despair, hopelessness, and defeat. It allows you to have trust in the Higher Power by opening your heart chakra and acknowledging that you are universally loved, accepted, and cared for. When you know deep down that you are loved and that you are enough exactly as you are (even as you improve and evolve) there is nothing that you cannot accomplish!

Many leaders in the metaphysical community have thought maintaining a higher vibration would prevent disease from taking hold in the body. Therefore, this stone may assist in healing by raising your own vibration. According to Judy Hall in The Crystal Bible (2003), Zoisite may also assist one’s liver and kidney in detoxifying the body while helping to reduce inflammation in all areas, including one’s skin (a rash, hives, acne, etc.) and internal organs (asthma, arthritis, etc.).

As an added bonus, Zoisite is excellent for relieving boredom by dispelling laziness and idleness (Melody, Love Is In The Earth, 2007). It motivates you to get out there and have some fun! After being isolated for long periods of time it can be a bit challenging to rejoin the rest of humanity, especially if you do not feel completely comfortable doing so yet!

So, when you feel the need for a stone to get you through the rest of 2020, perhaps get yourself a piece of Zoisite and feel it’s soothing energy.
